TECHNICAL CLOTHING DESIGNER / PROGRAMER

A reputable clothing company in Durban is looking for a Technical Clothing designer to translate garment designs into machine-ready knitting programs , ensuring accurate fit, structure, and design execution according to specifications.

GARMENT PRODUCTION KNOWLEDGE:
    • Understanding of fabric behaviour with different yarn blends (nylon, spandex, polyester)
    • Work that required precise measurements and quality control.
    • Knowledge of finishing techniques for garments
 
PATTERN MAKING SKILLS:
    • Have an understanding of pattern making skills, good understanding of pattern making.
    • Be able to create and adjust patterns.
    • Experience converting designs from sketches or cad into garments.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and measurement charts.
    • Familiarity with knit structures will be a big help.
 
TECHNICAL AND MACHINE KNOWLEDGE:
    • Experience with any textile machinery (flat knitting, circular knitting , sewing , embroidery etc.)
    • Comfort with basic tools and measurements
    • Understanding of machine programming languages will help.
    • Enjoy Technical programs and creating patterns digital.
    • Maths skills for measurement calculations
    •  
SOFT SKILLS:
    • Problem – solving under tight deadlines
    • Patience and persistence – seamless machines require trial and error.
    • Good communication with designers, production teams and QA
    • Ability to be trained on machines and settings.
 
LEARNING ABILITY:
    • Past roles where they learned a new machine or process quickly.
    • Training courses, apprenticeships on technical programs and knowledge with Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator will also help.
    • Computer literacy – ability to work with basic software, follow digital instructions
 
TRAINING:
    • Training will be provided on our pattern making systems.
